Read the letter from our generous sponsor:

In my hometown of West Haven, there’s a hidden gem of a museum. I was surprised when I first visited, how little I knew of the interesting history of our city and area. But one of the exhibits featured there brought me back years as it has had a great effect on me since I was a child.

Jimmie Gilbert was declared MIA while serving in Germany in WWII. One of the items displayed is a letter from one of his platoon mates addressed to his mother, Mrs. Gilbert. It gave her hope that perhaps Jimmie was still alive. And while there were stories of sightings and his being in a hospital, Jimmie never came home, yet Mrs. Gilbert never gave up hope that he was still alive.

I know this story so well because Jimmie was a dear friend of my dad’s. So much so that when my father had to leave the County Home for Children, the Gilbert’s welcomed him into their family, and he lived with them for several years. The Gilberts, a prominent family in West Haven, were the epitome of care and concern for others. I knew them intimately and on Christmas morning, after we got dressed, their home was our first stop of the day to visit family.

Go visit this very interesting museum and learn more of this hero’s story along with so many others that will give you a deeper appreciation of the men and women that have served our country to make it a better place for you and me.

Sincerely,

A Grateful and Blessed American
